Our Story

Dedicated to Restoring Active, Pain-Free Lifestyles

Dr Gerrit Gouws earned his medical degree from the University of Pretoria in 1999 before completing his internship at Tembisa Hospital and community service in rural Mpumalanga. After gaining valuable experience as a surgical intern at Pretoria Academic Hospital and completing post-graduate examinations in Anatomy, he spent years treating patients in large private GP practices.

During his early practice, Dr Gouws noticed how many patients relied heavily on daily chronic pain medication without long-term resolution. Driven by a personal struggle with an old ankle injury in 2002, he began researching alternative, root-cause treatments and discovered prolotherapy.

In 2008, Dr Gouws traveled to the United States to complete advanced specialized training with the highly esteemed Hackett-Hemwall Foundation at the University of Wisconsin. Recognizing the transformative potential of restorative medicine, he transitioned to practicing prolotherapy full-time in 2011 and continues to travel to the US regularly for advanced research and clinical training.

Why Parys?

Having grown up appreciating small-town life, Dr Gouws and his wife relocated to Parys in 2011 to raise their family in a community aligned with their values. An avid supporter of an active lifestyle, the town’s surrounding nature and extensive mountain biking trails offered the ideal environment to practice what he preaches. The move also allowed his family to fully pursue their passion for equine sports. Practicing in Parys provides the perfect balance of world-class restorative medicine and a grounded, outdoor-focused lifestyle.
